Alice In Wonderland

What is Reality ?
I was trying to portray the similarities between reality and wonderland by highlighting both words in the given definitions.
I also put in flying cards to highlight the fact that even cold hard reality such as a dictionary can have some magic to it.

Paper

In the above images a theme of love kept running through my mind.
The tonality of the first image brings in a certain warmth to the image, also the focus on the heart shape that the paper is forming emphasizes the theme of love.
The composition of crumpled paper wrapped up and held together by the ring represents my love for music.

The theme of these two images is paper and texture.
To me what makes these pictures 'pop' are both the camera angle and sharp quality. Both images have a sort of dark, edgy feel that (to me) captures a cold feeling.

Sneakers

This picture appeals to me personally because of the fact that I love shoes. This picture is also very nice because it is black and white in the middle and all around there is color which makes the shoe stand out. The shoe also looks like it is moving which makes it look like something different.

My 2 Favorite Pictures

This picture was taken during a photography trip to Ein Hod. I really like it because the steps and side wall lead you down into the black and white world. The balance between light and shade enables one to see the details of the stone wall and the trees in background. The bright orange flowers and green leaves in the foreground keeps the picture a little more interesting than just a black and white photograph and shows the light shining through them. Overall, I find this photograph appealing to the eye because of its cheerful yet subtle atmosphere.

This photograph was also taken during the photography trip to Ein Hod. I find it pleasing to look at because of the details. The light comes from the right side of the photograph and shines onto the door, making the shadows from the gate and tree appear on it. The details from the branches of the tree going in a seemingly random twisted way give a bit of interest to the picture. The pretty design in the gate feminizes the photo a little bit. My favorite however is the tie die blue shirt shoved into the gate. I feel like this brings your eye downwards and takes away the “prettiness” of this picture but adds practicality by having a messy shirt.

I love this picture of Wimberly because of the light on her face. Had her face been in the shadows, the image would not have been as powerful or as beautiful. The contrast between her dark hair and the light on her face add to it as well. Also, the background does not distract from the subject, the light and medium-dark grass compliments the image.

Lost Son- Page 4

In Hebrew Lit. class we read some poems by famous Israeli poets. One of the most famous Israeli poets was a woman called Lea Goldberg. She wrote a lot of amazing poems, a lot for children, and most of them with very deep meanings and messages. This photo is from a series of photos I have made based on her poem called 'The Lost Son'. If you would read the poem, you would get a very dark and foreboding feeling from the first verse, as the son who left his home and his family a couple of years before-hand decides to go back and all of the road signs are 'asking' him: "are you sure it's the right decision?" That is why they are all in black&white. In the first series there are four paragraphs that describe the journey and the dilemma of the son. Each photo from this series is based on one paragraph from the first verse of the poem. In each paragraph a different road sign is talking to him. Thus, I gave color and emphasis to each road sign. In the series, Daniel Gilenson is starring as my 'lost son'.

I took this picture by the pool. In this paragraph the son's eye tells him that his lips are dry of thirst. So the son drinks from the water, and cries. Again, I made it black&white to emphasize the sad feeling of the picture, but here I also used different layers and the history brush to create a background to seem as though he is nature/desert and not by the pool. I took background picture right outside of school. I gave color to the water, his tear, and the drop that is falling from his hands.

The translation of this paragraph is:

And on the way his eye told him:
Your lips are dry of thirst!
And he bent down and drank from the water
And a tear touched another.
